Who are the Best Teen Environmentalists on Social Media in 2023?
Let’s face it, most teens are on social media. Mostly, TikTok, Youtube, and Instagram. If you search for Best Teen Environmentalists on Social Media in 2023, you’re going to find the same problem that we found. Problem? What problem?
Listen up, tenemos muchos problemas.
Side note: See – I know Spanish. I shouldn’t have gotten an A- in Spanish last year. I was hosed….. For those of you who either haven’t had Spanish or we’re the best students, this means, “We have a lot of problems.”
Most teen environmentalists on social media that are discussed on the Internet, aren’t “teens”
Say what? That’s right…
Most of the teen environmentalists that show up when you search for the best teen environmentalists on social media are not going to be teens. They may be 20 years old, 27 years old, or even 30 years old. But they aren’t “teens.” As we all know teens are between the ages 13 years old and 19 years old. Not to be Captain obvious, but…
When you search on Google for the best teen environmentalists on social media, including Instagram, TikTok, Youtube, or even Facebook… well… you’re not going to find many teens.
As I said, there are lots of articles/ posts that show up on Google when you search for Best Teen Environmentalist.
They aren’t environmentalists
In addition to the “teens” not actually being teens, another problem you’ll find is that teen environmentalists that are in all of these “Top Teen Environmentalists” articles on Page 1 of Google, aren’t really “environmentalists.” Instead, they’re some other kind of activist.
Hey, there’s nothing wrong with promoting other causes, but the articles profess to be about “teen environmentalists” not teen (or older) people advancing other causes, no matter how worthwhile the causes are.
Social Media is how many teens learn about climate change
Climate change is one of the, if not the biggest, environmental problems the world faces today. No kidding, right?
Captain Obvious strikes again…
As it turns out, social media is how many teens are learning about climate change—a fact that brings with it huge implications for not only the planet and society but for teens.
Fifty-six percent of 14- to 18-year-olds said in a recent EdWeek Research Center poll that they learn “some” or “a lot” about climate change from social media such as YouTube and TikTok. Among those, a quarter learned a lot.
YouTube is where the largest share of teens—60 percent—say they have seen information on climate change.
Everyone knows Greta Thunberg is the number one teen environmentalist, right?
All articles or posts on teen environmentalists talk about Greta, and understandably so. But truth be told… Greta is no longer a teen. She’s 20 years old.
What the…..
Yep, it’s true. Don’t believe me… check this out: How old is Greta Thunberg?
But we give Greta a ton of run here because she was a trailblazer. Perhaps the first huge teen environmental activist.
Greta has 15m followers
In many ways, Greta is HUGE. She has over 15 million Instagram followers.
In case you missed that, that’s MILLION. As in 15…
Greta is articulate, speaks English well, and has passion. But most importantly, she comes across as authentic.
Here, Greta talks about the need to stop looking for hope and instead, create hope in yourself.
She is famous for scolding Western leaders for their lack of effort to curb the effects of climate change.
Greta has been criticized for not commenting on China. It’s our take if that’s Greta’s biggest fault, she’d done great.
According to many sources, Greta has a net worth of over $1 million. Some people criticize her success. Not us.
Her family has some wealth: her father is Svante Thunberg, an actor. Svante has a far less public profile but has been noted for his role in the TV series Skargardsdoktorn.

Alexandria Villaseñor
Age in 2023: 18 years old.
She’s reportedly from New York City. But another report says she’s in Davis, California. Which is certainly a “cow town.” Nothing wrong with cows, of course. A long way from NYC.
Alexandria Villaseñor is an American climate activist. She is reported to live in New York. A follower of the Fridays for Future movement and of fellow climate activist Greta Thunberg, Villaseñor is a co-founder of U.S. Youth Climate Strike and the founder of Earth Uprising.

Alexandria is actually quite impressive, we think. Here, she speaks at the United Nations observance of International Women’s Day 2020.
Ms. Villaseñor is on Insider’s list of Doers: 25 trailblazers creating hope and inspiring us.
