Let’s talk about San Diego ocean water.
I know it seems like I’m having fun with this whole “farmer’s tan” thing.
But truth is, San Diego ocean water isn’t so warm in the winter. It can be 75-80 degrees on the beach in January, but the water is 58 degrees. Cold. Freezing, actually.
So, during winter, you’ll need a full wet suit. And when you wear a full wetsuit, your face will get tanned, but not so much the rest of your body.
Come springtime, the San Diego water finally starts to warm up. You might wear a full wetsuit without sleeves, then maybe a wetsuit top and you’ll have a sort of “farmer’s tan” if you surf a lot.
Difference is, most surfers are also hanging out on the beach, in parking lots before and after surfing sessions. With most surfers, your body isn’t as white as a marshmallow. Come summer – it’s on. Most everyone is hanging at the beach.
If everyone had an ocean, across the USA, then everyone would be surfin’ like Cali–for–ni–a. Surfin’ USA.
